Volunteering

We would welcome a few more volunteers to help us at St George’s. What the cafe offers is really worthwhile and much valued support for folk living with dementia and their carers – along with a lot of smiles and laughter! The time commitment is normally just two Monday mornings per month. The only qualification is a desire to help others in return for a great deal of enjoyment and personal satisfaction. To find out more, either pop in on one of our cafe dates and see one of our committee members or phone 01508 494742 for an informal chat.

We provide a number of different activities for those living with dementia – jigsaws and games such as Scrabble are really popular – although the rules may be somewhat elastic. During the second hour there is a meeting in a separate room for the carers which provides much needed support and a break from being 100% focused on their relative/friend. The volunteers stay with those living with dementia for the two hours and help with which ever activity has been chosen.

Volunteering offers the chance to develop new friendships, use your personal skills and talents and make a difference to the lives of those living with dementia and their carers. If you would like more information do please call in to the cafe (see Cafe Dates page) or phone us to discuss.
