Norfolk Swift Response

Norfolk Swift Response is a free 24-hour service you can call upon if have an urgent, unplanned need at home but don’t need the emergency services. For example, if someone has had a fall and is not injured but cannot get up. Norfolk Swift Response can bring special lifting equipment to help make lifting as safe as possible. This service is for people in Norfolk who are over 18, living at home and who require physical or practical support with daily living tasks. Attendance Allowance

Many people who are living with dementia qualify for Attendance Allowance. You can apply for one of two levels of Attendance Allowance, depending on whether assistance is required only during the day or both day and night time. This benefit is not means tested and does not have to be spent on employing carers. The charity Age UK offer advice and help with completing the application form. See links below:

Council Tax Reduction

Residents can apply to their local authority for a reduction in their Council Tax when there are only two adult residents living at the address and one has been diagnosed with Dementia. This is usually a 25% reduction.

Disabled Parking Badge

Depending on the mobility of the person with dementia they may qualify for a disabled parking badge which can be a great help. However, the Blue Badge holder does not need to be the driver to qualify. The government website and Age UK offer advice on applying for a badge. See links below:

Norfolk Family Carers Charity

Norfolk Family Carers is a charitable organisation providing free advice and information to unpaid family carers over the phone. They offer practical and emotional support to carers at all stages of their caring journey. The service is available Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm. Check out their website for more details.
